Rules of the art classroom
Each first day of school (or of 2nd semester) we go over the rules of the art classroom. Students helped to write the rules listed below and they are asked to sign a contract regarding these rules each year. In general my classroom is very open, students move around, talk, listen to music, but it is important to have a set of rules that help us respect each other and the art classroom.
Rules of the Art Classroom
*Do your work-
-Complete assignments on time. Complete requirements. Focus on craftsmanship (neatness). TURN PROJECTS IN.
-When you are finished with projects, look them over, grade, and turn in. Then take a look at the “What to do when I’m done” wall.
-Working each and every day is a large portion of your grade.
*Be respectful-
-Be respectful to people and materials in classroom. This includes tables, paintbrushes, and other supplies.
-Use materials appropriately and sparingly- let’s not waste materials unless it is in the name of creating art!
-We clean up after ourselves and take care of the materials in the classroom, or risk not using the expensive materials like paint and clay.
-We are kind to other individuals in the classroom (adults and students). We assume positive intentions from all.
*Keep volume low-
-Though I want you to feel heard, and know that you have a voice, we don’t all need to hear everything you say at THIS VOLUME. Keep the volume low or risk no talking.

I agree that by signing the line above I will work hard to follow the rules Mrs. H has stated above. If I do not, I will accept the consequences.

Mrs. H's Goals for you this year
What Mrs. Harp wants you to learn this year:
Dear Students,
This year in art I want you to learn the following:
*To Be Creative-
Try your own unique ideas, involve your own personality and personal choice, and not to copy (exactly) things you see. Remember use things as artistic inspiration, not to copy.
*To Be Confident-
Know that you CAN be an artist and everything gets better with practice (I promise).
*To Try New Things-
We learn the most when we have to push ourselves. Sometimes new art projects make us uncomfortable so we do what we have to, to get by or to get a “good” grade. Instead push yourself and try and make it your own personal best, while learning something new.
*To Make Mistakes and Grow From Them-
If a mistake arises, learn from the mistake. Turn it into something. Appreciate the growth, not the perfection.
*Try As Many Different Art Mediums That You Can-
I want to introduce you to as many art materials as I have the ability to introduce to you.
*To Be Positive-
Look for the good, appreciate everyone and everything for their positive side.
*And most of all TO HAVE FUN-
Art should be fun, that is why I love art!!
