#Art is cool- two art one students SURPRISED me with a message made out of rulers
Hi, My name is Mrs. H and I am the Art Teacher at Heath Middle School. This site has been constructed to give our students a place to show off and display their wonderful artworks that they have worked so hard on, and also to serve as a communication tool between the school, student homes and our community.
The mission of my classroom is to help students learn to be better artists, while exposing them to as many art mediums as possible, working hard on achieving mastery of the Ohio Standards while making sure to involve student interest in projects. In 2013, being my first year, I wasn't sure what the students had worked on so we started out the year with a "sticky-note" survey. The students answered three questions:
1) What is the one thing you want to learn most in art this year?
2) What was your favorite thing about an art class in the past?
3) What was your least favorite thing about an art class in the past?
Students then shared their responses with the class and the conclusion was this: Students wanted more freedom in both the classroom and with art projects and they wanted to do CLAY! These two goals were accomplished and it was such a joy to watch the students enjoy art and grow as young artists!
Every year since I have kicked off the year with that same activity so I always am involving the students in the lesson planning and finding out what I can do to help them learn and appreciate art.
