Artist Spotlight: Kayla Palladino
Special shout out to Kayla Palladino and her hard work on our current art one project. This project is a personal choice painting where the students had the opportunity to choose any subject they wanted to for their design. Kayla chose Mario, but to make it a challenge, she made it HUGE! Mario is 22 inches wide by 30 inches tall What great work she is doing! If you know anything about painting you know that learning to mix colors and blend paint is a true art and takes a lot of practice. She is doing a great job!
Fresh Films Tech Grant
Thank you to Fresh Films and Subway who awarded me and our middle school a tech grant for $300 this past November! Through writing a grant and having it accepted I can purchase another computer for the art classroom! We now will have two devices for students to look up pictures to reference in their artworks, to research, and to also learn more about photoshop and other graphic arts projects. We are so thankful and so excited. Thank you for your help!!
Art room painting by ashlynn sinnett
This year, I wanted to add a quote in my room titled "Wonderful World of Art" after the Disney quote "Wonderful World of Disney". I have a talented art student who is a sophomore this year, Ashlynn Sinnett, that comes in to the art room and donates her lunch time almost everyday to help my 6th grade students and learn about being an art teacher. For about a month she worked hard drawing and painting this quote on my wall and it turned out great! So thankful for your help Ashlynn!!

Welcome back students 2016-2017
First day of school again!! It was so wonderful meeting all of my students and seeing some friendly faces I already knew. To my surprise I again receive the honor of teaching some high school students in art one classes this year so it was nice to see some students I hadn't seen/taught in a while!
2015-2016 School year Announcements below
May 2016
As the year comes to a close, and students (and their teachers) are eager for summer break to begin, I find myself a little sad that this year is over. My teaching experience is growing with each year, and I get more excited to start lessons and teach more with each day, and I'm still wishing for just a few more days to show them a few more neat things about art, but it will have to wait until next year. I like the students am ready for a summer break and some rejuvenating before summer art starts this July. I'm wishing my 6th graders lots of fun in the sun to run out some of their energy (ha) and the 7th grade many hours of singing their favorite songs loudly while dancing that "schools out for the summer" (we enjoyed our pandora this year). And last but not least, this year's group of art one students were phenomenal. The group as a whole was so humble, never boastful about how wonderful at art they really were. I am so proud of how much they have grown and how much they really seemed to invest in what they were learning about. I can't wait to see what they take on at the high school. We will be celebrating their commencement of 8th grade at the 8th grade awards ceremony on June 1st and then art one will have class parties on June 2nd. If they would like to bring in a snack to share with the class they are more than welcome to do so, but it is not expected. Thank you all for a great year, I am looking forward to summer art and my 4th year teaching!!
April 2016
04/14/2016 Good morning!! It has been a long while from one blog to the next, it has been really busy since November!! First a couple of announcements then I will catch you up about what all we have been working on. The art classroom is in need of the following donations if you are able to donate: paper plates, clorox or any other brand of cleaning wipes, tissues, paper towels, crayons, markers, masking tape and plastic or styrofoam egg cartons. We use paper plates A LOT for mixing paints during our painting projects so those are the most needed. PLEASE :)
The art show went well! I so appreciate all the student help I had and the help from the high school art teacher setting up. It was the first art show at Heath that combined HMS with HHS. We had many people attend on Tuesday. There are so many wonderful artists here at Heath! Thank you parents and families who came to celebrate the talent of the students and help them to see how important their hard work is.
In the classroom 6th grade classes are currently working on painting their candy paintings, the 7th grade is designing a cartoon/disney painting, 8th grade are working on drawing dream homes in 2 point perspective and art one students are drawing each other from real life. Our first lesson in drawing the human body. They all are working so hard and really surprising me with their ideas and hard work. We also traveled to the art show on Wednesday to allow students who weren't able to attend our Tuesday evening open house so everyone would get a chance to see the artwork. The show will remain on display until Friday then it will be taken down and some of the artwork will be submitted to the Heath July celebration.

November 2015
11/05/2015 All 7th grade and 6th grade students will be working with clay starting the first and second weeks of November. It is important to note that though this project is a lot of fun but it is messy. Do not be alarmed if students come home with clay on their clothes. It will wash out. Also special note that clay likes to suck the moisture out of our hands so if your student gets home and they are complaining of dry skin make sure they moisturize so they don't develop cracks in their skin which can hurt. Other than that clay projects are one that I and the students look forward to every year. 6th graders this year are working on fish and tiles and the 7th graders will be making cups. After DC 8th grade students will begin working with paper mache to build masks, but will also get a chance to work with clay later in the school year because they have the added bonus of having year long art :)
Art One special announcement if you can bring in more glue or newspaper or cardboard for our paper mache project that would be awesome!

11/03/2015 What's new in art this week? 6th grade students have just started working on their clay projects. There first project is clay fish and the next project will be a clay tile. 7th grade students are finishing up their perspective stores unit getting ready to embark on their clay journey. 8th graders are finishing up zentangles. I'm really proud of my 6th grade students this week for how they have handled working with clay.
